Description:
Brian the Bear is a whimsical 12 foot tall sculpture depicting a bear seated on a tree stump reading The Tales of Brian Head. Three faux log metal benches surround the figure, each featuring stainless steel cubs posed as if listening and playing, inviting visitors to gather and engage with the story.
In collaboration with Jagged Edge Metal Art, I developed the 3D design and graphic artwork, supported fabrication, and participated in installation. The sculpture is constructed from stainless steel, mild steel, and weathering steel, with a custom tiled skin that shapes and defines the form. The open book incorporates recessed LED lighting, illuminating the pages and softly lighting Brian’s face at night.
The project extended beyond sculpture. We partnered with a local writer to create The Tales of Brian Head and commissioned illustrations for a pocket sized book that accompanies the installation. The result is a community centered artwork that blends storytelling, craftsmanship, and public space into a lasting landmark for the town.
